Smoky Mountain Barbecue in West Jefferson

Always loved coming here since I was a kid. Enjoy it even more now that I live across the country. Bought a lot of country ham here. Byron is super friendly, and truly blessed to own such a great restaurant with great food. Good pricing too.Also, i saw a Bernie Sanders look alike here a few years ago lol.

This place is awesome. I had the pleasure of meeting the owner and he was real humble, offered me a sample of the beef brisket. Needless to say that I ordered it and it was great! My wife got the bbq and loved it! We will definitely be returning with our whole family every time we are in West Jefferson. Thanks for one of the best meals I've had in a long time!

Ok bbq, not smoked

Delicious BBQ, ate there twice this weekend, Friday was the first time we had ever been, went back Monday. If you are coming to Jefferson to tube, kayak, or canoe, I recommend coming by here for lunch or dinner. Everything we had was delicious. We will eat here every time we come up.

Really good salt and pepper fried catfish, green beans and perfectly cooked baked potato. My wife had BBQ pork sandwich and hush puppies, and she's very picky and loves it. Friendly staff and clean restrooms, definitely a place you should try.

It was very good , very busy , can't done on or any sitting on the porch so had to take with us , no BBQ sauce kinda disappointing since a good BBQ sandwich needs some sauce . Fried chicken good , fried shrimp good we had a big order , too far to drive back for sauces left out

Delicious! Pork was lean, tender and savory and we loved the slaw and his puppies. They have also done a nice job of being careful with COVID-19 and offering curb-side options.

Dang..this place is perfect every time...Bbq and sides are seasoned well..bbq has a slight..wang...to it..just enough to be flavorful...priced so well.

What a wonderful experience during a very emotional time! Smokey Mountain BBQ went out of the way to accommodate my family during the loss of our Mom. The food was amazing and plentiful. Thank you Byron for all your help and service. Highly recommend this place!

I guess we picked a bad day to come for the first time. No fault to the establishment, we came around 2:00 on Christmas in July Saturday. We waited in a long line for over 30 minutes just to order. They were out of Mac and cheese to the disappointment of the grandkids. They were out of ice but rushed to restock. I felt bad for the very very overwhelmed staff. The food was good for most of my party. However, my fried chicken was a little salty. Iced tea was fresh and delicious 😋. The tables were dirty as the staff was too busy to get to them. I would like to try again on a less busy day.

Second time coming to Smoky Mountain Barbecue. It's worth every penny! Pulled pork and ribs are my favorite! The beans are incredible.

Good food and atmosphere. Sometimes there is a line, but the get you through quickly. Always clean.

Most things looked over-breaded, over-sauced. I had the plain pork. It was meh. If you eat a carnivore or allergy-sensitive diet, this is not the bbq place .for you. If you're normal, it's probably not too bad. My family finished most of their food, but no gushing comments, so I'm rating this based on their behavior, not my weirdness.

The chicken bbq was really tasty, but was a bit on the dry side. Side items were good, as I had the salad and macaroni and cheese. Got my food quickly and the prices were reasonable. I like the different types of fountain drinks they have - I haven’t seen RC cola in a soda fountain much. Desserts looked tasty too, but didn’t get to try those.

Been a while since I had ate there but it's still very good. Nice staff as well. Due to the virus I ate in there parking lot and was well worth the trip up the mountain from Wilkes County.

Fried Chicken is best you will ever have. Pork Barbeque is amazing too

Oh my goodness, how delicious. We ordered through the drive-thru. Went out front & ate in the truck. Now I don't like to eat in the truck, but let me tell you this. It was so good, I forgot about my dislike of even eating in the truck. Try it, you'll like it & you will return.

Great Food!! Well worth the Stop....if you like Pig, you will love this place. Great BBQ, Brisket, Sides, etc. BBQ atmosphere and smells great. The Country Ham is to die for. Some of best I have ever had. If you are passing close by, come and check this place out!!

Down to earth restaurant with BBQ the main staple but plenty of other good choices and sides. Mom loves their flounder. A friend likes their not-dog, all the fixings without the dog. I like their BBQ sandwich. We've used the back room for parties several times.

Fast service after ordering. Good fried chicken. BBQ moist and tasty. Have both vinegar or tomato BBQ sauces. Lines to order can be long. Most food is cafeteria quality. Ribs I have been told are good. No indoor seating yet.

Good barbecue. One piece of chicken on combo barbecue chicken platter was all crust almost no meat. Barbecue was 5 star.

Ordered baby back ribs and bbq combo. So good! Ham biscuit was delicious too. This place is a family run business with cafeteria style service and lots of seats indoors or on screened porch. Great atmosphere for casual dining.

My family and I love Smokey Mountain. We’ve been coming here for as long as I can remember, over a decade. Anyways, we have tried many different items on the menu. Our favorite is the ribs. They’re so good I actually don’t eat ribs anywhere else because nothing compares to theirs. Our favorite sides are the sweet potato casserole and onion rings. The hush puppies are delicious and even better when you ask for honey butter. Byron also catered for my sisters rehearsal dinner. It was awesome to have him (the owner) come out and serve the food on what was I’m sure a busy night at his restaurant. The catering was obviously just as good as the restaurant.

Great local business! We have been going there for years....the only barbecue we will eat in the High Country. Owner and staff are awesome!

I really wanted to like this place. 5 stars for staff easily. I taste banana pudding all over the state. I give it a step up from Smithfields. Nothing special but not bad. BBQ is standard. Hushpuppies are okay. Brunswick stew and mac is good. My sister liked the sweet potato casserole. Country ham is the best. Wasn't too impressed with the biscuits. If I could get this ham + a bojangles biscuit? Now that would be a match in heaven.

Great food but unbelievable service. Most orders are ready as soon as you order at the window but I had a special order. A mistake was made that saw me wait for 30 minutes. When I inquired the staff was so apologetic, gave me my order plus banana pudding, a full refund and a certificate for a new meal. I am a customer for life!

Went there for the first time today and was not impressed with our meals at all. I have read alot of others comments about the meals they got and the people around us meals seemed good but not what the wife and I ordered. We had the beef brisket meal. Brisket tasted like wet card board. It was tough to eat and I didn't finish it. I very seldom leave anything on my plate even when I don't like it. Macaroni was good but not home cooking kind more like Stouffer's in the tin. Fried okra was fried okra. The good: Sweet tea was very good. We got some chocolate chip cookies that were very large and good with an affordable price. The service was very friendly and place was very clean. Cafeteria style served that I like instead of waiter service that usually isn't good. Like being able just get up and get my own refills as needed. Again people around us had fried chicken and fish. All smelled and looked good. I'm not not recommending this just saying wouldn't get what we got.

Smoky Mtn has some delicious meals whether you are wanting pork chicken or fish it's always good and you can sit in the screened in porch and enjoy family time

We love the fried chicken at Smoky Mountain Barbecue. Their banana pudding is the best. They have an extensive menu at this home town walk through and sit down restaurant. The place is clean and the staff is super friendly.

The owner is a very sweet person and treats everyone equal. He offers to help anyone. The food is home recipe and delicious!

Yum! The corndog is the best I have ever had, we sampled fried chicken,bbq ,pintos, stew, mac and cheese and of course cookies. Food was piping hot, staff was friendly and prices were perfect!!!! Absolutely great!!!

The best Fried Chicken around. The Red Carolina Slaw is delicious and not easily available elsewhere. Very popular, come early.

Fantastic food. It is served cafeteria style. It does have an certain charm to it. There is nice outdoor seating that is screened in. All of that is nice but I just can't get over the food. Make sure to come hungry. The portions are huge!
